Election Commission of India
- Article 324
- Article 324(2): the President of India is empowered to appoint the CEC and the ECs
- Article 324(2) empowers the President of India to fix from time to time the number of Election Commissioners other than the CEC
- Election Commissioners have tenure of 6 years, or up to the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier
- CEC is provided with the security of tenure
- Status: Similar to Judges of the Supreme Court of India
- Elections: Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, State Legislative Assemblies in India, and the offices of the President and Vice President.
